What is a drain survey and how will it benefit me?

A drain survey is carried out using a specially designed camera that is pushed through the drains via a cable on a reel. The images are shown on a monitor which has the facility to record the images on to VHS Cassette or DVD. To inherit a damaged or broken drain could potentially cost thousands to replace or repair.

Damage to drains can be caused by a number of factors. Ground movement and root ingress are probably the most common causes. Once the ground around the pipe becomes unstable then the pipes move. With clay pipe this causes the connecting collars to crack. Once the collars have cracked the pipes move indipendently causing stepped joints. Tree roots will then find their way into the drain eventually causing more structural damage and blockages.

With technology striding forward, methods of repairing drains without digging them out have been perfected and tested over many years. Broken drains can more often than not be re-lined to prevent collapse and to seal the drain. If a drain has collapsed then it my have to be excavated and replaced.
